Super NES Classic Edition Pre-Orders Coming Later This Month

When Nintendo announced the Super NES Classic Edition – many fans immediately thought there would be legions of scalpers grabbing the ten or so units made worldwide the moment pre-orders went up. Wal-Mart prematurely launched pre-orders, only to later cancel everything.

Now, Nintendo has finally confirmed pre-orders for the re-release of the classic home console will be coming sometime later this month.

“We appreciate the incredible anticipation that exists for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition system, and can confirm that it will be made available for pre-order by various retailers late this month,” the company said.

“A significant amount of additional systems will be shipped to stores for launch day, and throughout the balance of the calendar year.” It’s worth noting the console will cost $79.99 when it launches.

Here’s a brief synopsis of the hardware, via Nintendo:

The mini system, which contains 21 pre-installed classic games and can easily be plugged into any high-definition TV using the included HDMI cable, will be available at a suggested retail price of $79.99. And for the first time, players who pick up the system can enjoy the intergalactic adventure Star Fox 2, the sequel to the original Star Fox game that was created during the Super NES era but never released … anywhere!

The Super NES Classic Edition will launch on September 29th launch in North America and Europe.
