Subnautica 2 may already have over four million players exploring its alien oceans, but developer Unknown Worlds is far from finished. The studio has revealed a fresh look at what’s coming next, and it sounds like players have plenty to look forward to.
According to a new developer update, several quality-of-life improvements are on the way. The Biomod system is receiving expanded customization options, wreck exploration is getting improvements, and players will soon be able to replay PDA voice logs.
The team is also improving how important audio messages are delivered so critical information doesn’t get lost during gameplay.
For co-op players, things are about to become a lot more social. Proximity voice chat, additional character customization options, and new emotes are all currently in development, making underwater adventures with friends feel more interactive.
The biggest news, however, is the first major content update. Unknown Worlds is preparing an entirely new region featuring the mysterious Collector Leviathan, new creatures, additional resources, and story content.
The developers also teased a brand-new chassis, hinting at the return of a feature many fans have been requesting, telling players to “get ready to get stompy.”
Perhaps most importantly, the upcoming content is expected to work with existing saves, meaning you won’t have to start over when the update arrives.
Subnautica 2 has been available for Windows PC (via Steam, Microsoft Store, Epic Games Store) and Xbox Series X|S since May 2026.
