Studio MDHR surprised fans during Summer Game Fest 2026 with not one, but two major Cuphead announcements.
The biggest reveal is that a brand-new Cuphead game is officially in development. The studio confirmed that its next major project will take Cuphead and friends on an entirely new adventure, though details remain scarce for now. Development is still in its early stages, meaning it could be some time before we see gameplay or learn more about the story.
Announcement was accompanied by a vintage-style “special bulletin” presentation that offered a glimpse at the direction the studio is taking. Co-founder Chad Moldenhauer described the project as another example of the craftsmanship that has defined Studio MDHR since the original Cuphead launched in 2017.
Studio also revealed Mighty Cuphead Adventure, a separate 8-bit action platformer that has been quietly developed by a smaller internal team. Rather than simply copying the look of retro games, Studio MDHR has gone all-in on authenticity.
Game is being programmed in classic Assembly language and designed around the technical limitations of the Sega Master System, the console originally released in the 1980s.
While Mighty Cuphead Adventure will be available on modern platforms, the studio confirmed that players will also be able to purchase a physical cartridge version that runs on original Sega Master System hardware.
