Frictional Games, the studio behind hit titles Amnesia: The Dark Descent and SOMA, have updated their aptly titled NextFrictionalGame webpage with a subtle teaser.
A pulsing dot of light in the center of the page is all we have to go on, but it’s still a nice sign of life from the studio. Following the release of SOMA in 2015, Frictional Games have been relatively quiet about planned releases, despite allegedly having two projects in the works.
Vague, spooky marketing like this isn’t exactly new for Frictional–Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs‘ advertising campaign involved a pretty elaborate ARG, and SOMA left subtle breadcrumbs for years before we had any solid info on the game. While this vague teaser doesn’t necessarily guarantee a similar marketing strategy, it wouldn’t be a surprise.
It’s likely that this new teaser is for a project referred to in this blog post, only briefly described as ‘horrific in nature.’ The post claimed that this mystery title was in full production, with approximately 80% of the team working on it at the time of posting.
We’ll keep you updated as news breaks on this topic.
