Strictly Limited Games and developer Factor 5 have announced a new Turrican game will be revealed during Gamescom Opening Night Live.
The original Turrican launched in 1990 on the Commadore 64. Players were tasked with liberating the colony of Alterra from terraforming AI gone mad MORGUL in Run and Gun stages. The game went to other platforms, spawned two sequels, and two Super Turrican games on the SNES.
As stated in the press release (via email), Strictly Limited Games and Factor 5 (the developers of the original Turrican) will reveal a new Turrican game during Gamescom Opening Night Live. “Now, teaming up with the original development team, Strictly Limited Games is excited to bring back this legendary IP.”
This likely means a brand-new game, as oppose to a port of the original. The last Turrican game was Super Turrican 2 in 1995. Several 3D projects have been cancelled, though there is no information what style the new game will take.
After the revral, and to celebrate the series’ 30th anniversary, pre-orders and exclusive limited editions will be available on Strictly Limited Games’ website.
We will keep you informed as we learn more. Gamescom Opening Night Live premieres August 27th at 11:00 a.m. PT.
