Street Fighter 6 managed some impressive sales figures during its launch back in June. However, these numbers have slowed down in the following quarter as Capcom’s earnings revealed.
Overall, Street Fighter 6 has hit 2.47 million copies sold through the end of September 2023. It’s not a bad number, but appears to only be roughly half a million sales since their announcement of topping 2 million at the start of July.
For comparison, this lags behind other games in the franchise, where Street Fighter V has achieved 6.6 million sales and Street Fighter IV got 9.4 million. Of course, those games have been around longer, so there is a chance for the latest title to catch up, but the gap is noticeable.
Capcom credits their inclusion of features to appeal to a wider range of players such as the new modern control scheme for the game’s high sales, but noted that the genre of competitive fighting games meant lesser sales compared to titles such as Resident Evil and Monster Hunter.
To reaffirm how crowded the fighting game genre has gotten, for example, Mortal Kombat 1 just launched last month and Tekken 8 is set to release early next year.
Despite this, Capcom state they’ll continue to support the game with promotion of the esports scene to build stronger long term sales.
Street Fighter 6 is available now across Windows PC (via Steam), Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. Check out our review here!
