Swedish indie studio Image & Form have finally revealed their hotly anticipated successor to SteamWorld Dig: A Fistful of Dirt in the form of SteamWorld Heist.
“It’ll be full of surprises and probably the best game ever,” says Brjann Sigurgeirsson, Image & Form CEO. While the release date, release platforms, and price are unconfirmed, we do have a teaser trailer (featured above) and some new screenshots:
The game is seemingly different from the original title in that you control a team of robots instead of one lonely explorer. The setting has also been switched up to take place on spacecraft instead of a desert like planet.
The story within SteamWorld Heist takes place in a time after a cataclysm has destroyed the robots original planet, forcing its population to eke out a living in steam-powered spacecraft. Water is naturally a very precious commodity now, and infighting erupts out after the search for the resource.
“Heist isn’t a sequel to SteamWorld Dig,” says CEO Brjann Sigurgeirsson. “It’s set in the same world and the cowbots are still the heroes. But a lot has happened to SteamWorld since then, and we want to make a game that is radically different. Partly because we really wanted to make a turn-based strategy game, but also because it felt like a clever move. The obvious follow-up would’ve been Dig 2; we wanted to surprise instead.”
We reviewed the original SteamWorld Dig, and gave it a 9.5/10, so please check it out.
