Steam-Heart’s & Advanced Variable Geo Saturn Tribute cancels Xbox One version over required censorship

Steam-Heart's & Advanced Variable Geo Saturn Tribute

Japanese publisher City Connection announced they’ve canceled the Xbox One version for Steam-Heart’s & Advanced Variable Geo Saturn Tribute, citing a request to censor or alter the game more.

“Due to the nature of the game being a revival of an exciting and controversial work, we have been developing this title with the goal of providing a common gaming experience across multiple platforms,” City Connection said in a statement.

They added, “While each platform has its own standards, and we have made many adjustments to the content of the game, we have come to the conclusion that we need to make significant changes to the expression of the game for the Xbox version.”

Steam Heart’s & Advanced Variable Geo Saturn Tribute was set to release for Xbox alongside PC (Steam-Heart’s, Advanced Variable Geo), Switch, and PS5. The other versions are still launching on May 29th in Japan.

“This is a difficult decision to make, but we have come to this conclusion,” City Connection said. “We sincerely apologize to everyone who was looking forward to the release of the Xbox version. We would like to continue to deliver our works to you on each platform, including Xbox.”

It’s worth noting the other versions of the game had to also make alterations or possible censorship to adhere to other platform requirements, as confirmed by the Steam-Heart’s Steam page:

“Additionally, the original’s sensual scenes have been thoughtfully adapted for a modern revival, respecting the heroines’ privacy while maintaining the essence of the classic,” the Steam page notes.
