Steam Deck stick drift discovered but Valve released a fix already

Steam Deck stick drift

Users have been reporting on Steam Deck stick drift, a curious new issue with the recently launched Valve handheld. Valve has already started rolling out an update, however.

Analog stick drift is an unfortunately common issue with gaming controllers of various platforms, with Nintendo’s Joy-Cons being the most recent to be notoriously bad with drifting – though they improve them with each iteration.

While other analog stick drift seems to be hardware based and typically needs some kind of repair or maintenance, Valve’s Steam Deck stick drift is software based apparently. As such, the digital gaming giant has already rolled out an update to users to resolve the issue.

Valve UX designer Lawrence Yang addressed the Steam Deck stick drift, confirming a fix is already rolling out.

“Hi all, a quick note about Steam Deck thumbsticks. The team has looked into the reported issues and it turns out it was a deadzone regression from a recent firmware update,” Yang said. “We just shipped a fix to address the bug, so make sure you’re up to date.”

Valve’s recently launched Steam Deck is now available, and in three flavors: $399 (64GB), $529 (256GB), and $649 (512GB), over on the Steam store.
