Valve has announced the Steam Deck dock is delayed, meaning it won’t be available at the handheld’s launch this week.
While the Steam Deck dock is delayed to sometime in late spring, that doesn’t mean you’re totally out of luck if you want to play PC on the big TV.
We covered in our previous report that the Steam Deck is, as Valve themselves have said, essentially a handheld gaming PC. If you wanted, you could throw a regular copy of Windows onto the Steam Deck and theoretically it should then work with any old USB-C dock.
Actual specs on the official Steam Deck dock include: a USB 3.1 port, two USB 2.0 ports, two display ports, and an Ethernet port. So far, Valve has only confirmed HDMI passthrough and docking capabilities with their official dock, but perhaps the above workaround could perform.
As mentioned, the official Steam Deck dock won’t be available at release and has been delayed to late spring – although Valve did confirm iFixit was named as an authorized seller for replacement parts of the Steam Deck.
Valve’s Steam Deck is available for pre-order in three flavors: $399 (64GB), $529 (256GB), and $649 (512GB), over on the Steam store, and is set to launch on February 25th.
