While there are numerous zombie survival games out now, the State of Decay series has carved out a decent fandom. Fans of State of Decay 2 will be sad to hear support on the game is ending, so the team can focus on State of Decay 3.
The developer announced post-launch updates and support for State of Decay 2 is ending later in 2024 after six-plus years of updates and fixes. Undead Labs released nearly 40 updates and expansions to the game adding new maps, modes, difficulties, characters, and more.
“Since 2018, we’ve had the honor and privilege of supporting State of Decay 2 with nearly forty updates and expansions,” Undead Labs said. “New modes, maps, difficulties, stories, characters, weapons, cosmetics, bounties, vehicles, events, traits and more — we’ve poured our hearts into making the experience the best it can be, spurred on by your belief in us. Every update addressed your Wishlist requests, fixed bugs, and brought quality of life improvements. We love making the game you love to play.”
While there won’t be any new content updates or fixes to State of Decay 2, the in-game Bounty Broker will “continue to cycle automatically” for players still playing or trying to get the coveted 100% achievements.
As mentioned, Undead Labs are dropping active support for the second game in the series to shift all of their focus on finally releasing State of Decay 3, as the game was announced way back in 2020 and we’ve only seen bits of gameplay since, like below:
“Our ambition is to make the greatest zombie survival sim in the franchise, and to do so, we’ll be shifting our focus and resources to making the upcoming third installment, State of Decay 3,” the developer said.
State of Decay 3 is in development for Windows PC and Xbox Series X, though it has no release date set.
