Some people get greedier with success while others remain humble and despite all the success from Stardew Valley, its creator Eric Barone has sworn off one of gaming’s worst practices: paid downloadable content.
Despite the fact that Stardew Valley is nearing a decade old, developer Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone still toils away at post-launch content for the game, all of which he has never charged money for despite all his extra work.
“The ports and next pc update are still in progress,” Barone said while teasing the game’s latest update. “I know it is taking a long time, its on my mind every minute.”
Barone added that he has been “personally been working on the mobile port (of Stardew Valley) every day” and said he’ll announce news like a release date soon. He closed out his thoughts by wishing all his adoring fans to have a good summer.
It was after this update that a fan replied to him saying as long as all the post-launch content is free, everything is worth the wait, to which Barone replied:
“I swear on the honor of my family name, I will never charge money for a DLC or update for as long as I live,” Barone said. “Screencap this and shame me if I ever violate this oath.”
While all the final content for Stardew Valley is finished up, Barone’s next game, Haunted Chocolatier, was put on hold so he could fully dedicate his time to finishing the former’s last bits of updates and content.
Stardew Valley has been available since 2016 for Windows PC (via GOG, and Steam) Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Android, and iOS. Check out our review here!
