Following a recent playtest on the platform, indie developer Chucklefish has announced Starbound is finally fully available on Xbox consoles after a decade of waiting.
Starbound is now available for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S via the Microsoft Store, for $14.99. Xbox fans can expect the new console release to include full controller support including toggleable auto-aiming, co-op for up to four players, and more.
Starbound was originally released in an early access beta in 2013 and hit full release in July 2016 on Windows PC (via Steam). It has never been ported to consoles prior to this Xbox release.
Here’s a rundown on the game, plus a new trailer:
Play Starbound, available for the first time on console!
You’ve fled your home after an alien attack, only to find yourself lost in space with a damaged ship. Your only option is to beam down to the planet below and gather the resources you need to repair your ship and set off to explore the vast, infinite universe…
In Starbound, you create your own story – there’s no wrong way to play! You may choose to save the universe from the forces that destroyed your home, uncovering greater galactic mysteries in the process, or forego a heroic journey entirely in favour of colonising uncharted planets.
Settle down and farm the land, become an intergalactic landlord, hop from planet to planet collecting rare creatures, or delve into dangerous dungeons and lay claim to extraordinary treasures.
Discover ancient temples and modern metropolises, trees with eyes and mischievous penguins. Make use of hundreds of materials and over two thousand objects to build a sleepy secluded cabin in the woods, a medieval castle, or an underwater arcade.
