Starbound finally coming to Xbox after 10+ years

Starbound

Indie developer Chucklefish has announced Starbound is finally coming to Xbox consoles, over a decade since the console version was originally teased by the team.

Starbound is coming to Xbox consoles soon though a playtest is currently being held, where the team will gather feedback on finalizing and finally releasing the Xbox version(s).

“It’s been a minute, but we’re proud to announce that Starbound is almost ready to launch on Xbox!,” the developer said. “Before release, we need your feedback on Xbox controls, UI, & UX in the Xbox Insider playtest! Your input will assist our final tweaks”

Starbound was originally released in an early access beta in 2013 and hit full release in July 2016 on Windows PC (via Steam). It has never been ported to consoles since, though its predecessor, Terraria, has been on nearly every platform imaginable.

Feedback that the team at Chucklefish is looking for before launching the Xbox version of Starbound includes a focus on button mapping (very important for sandbox games on consoles), as well as the balancing (they’ve tweaked balancing for the console version).

The ongoing Starbound playtest for Xbox is running until September 4th but only for Xbox Insiders. You can get access on the Xbox Insider Program via the Insider Hub app, on the Xbox Store.
