Disney has announced an upcoming anthology series called Star Wars: Visions that will feature a collection of short films from Japanese animators.

The upcoming anthology series was announced on the official Star Wars Twitter page. The series is expected to premiere in 2021.

The Star Wars franchise has been praised in the past for its operatic themes (particularly within the original trilogy) and has been a hit with Japanese audiences.

Star Wars creator George Lucas has spoken out on his inspiration from renowned Japanese film maker Akira Kurosawa. In particular the film The Hidden Fortress was a considerable inspiration for Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.

Recent Japanese contributions to the Star Wars fandom include a Kabuki theater performance. Awebcomic published by Line called STAR WARS: Lost Stars; which is an adaptation of the canon novel of the same name by Claudia Grey released in 2017 and is available in the west from Yen Press.
