Hot on the heels of Nintendo revealing a new Star Fox game for Switch 2, the original creator of Star Fox has sounded off on Fox’s new design.
While Fox McCloud made a very prominent cameo in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the newly revealed Star Fox game has changed up the famous fox’s look again.
“Personally, I prefer the movie version,” Imamura said to a fan asking his thoughts on the new design. “But I thought this one was good in its own way, with a clear direction!”
The Mario Galaxy Movie version of Fox went with a more cute or cartoony style to match the other designs from the animated film, the new game seems to have a more realistic approach.

“I wake up in the morning. A ton of messages have come in. Oh! Star Fox is finally making a comeback…” Imamura said earlier that day. “I’ve gotta post about this… wait, this isn’t a dream, right?”
Another fan asked Imamura how he felt on the new design in this other thread, to which he replied: “I guess this is how it turns out if I’m not supervising… or something like that. I think the concept is good.”
Takaya Imamura is mostly known for being the main artist and creator of the original Star Fox as writer, character designer, and art director. He worked on the series all the way until 2016’s Star Fox Zero and Star Fox Guard, though he retired from Nintendo in 2021.
