Google has finally gone on the record to clarify what their upcoming games streaming platform, Stadia, will offer paid subscribers every month.
Previously, the company promised “additional free games released regularly” to subscribers of their $10 a month Stadia Pro subscription. Stadia product director Andrey Doronichev talked up the free games in an official Reddit AMA.
The first “free” game to be offered is Destiny 2, however Doronichev clarified the service is “not Netflix for games.” He instead compares it to Xbox Live Games for Gold or PlayStation Plus, both of which offer free games every month.
Stadia Pro will give out “roughly one free game per month, give or take.” This will also mirror PlayStation Plus and Games With Gold, where all the “free” games you redeem every month will be added to a “growing pool as long as you’re a Stadia subscriber.”
This mirrors Sony’s PlayStation Plus, where you only have access to those free games so long as you’re a subscriber, while Microsoft’s Games With Gold will let you keep those games forever.
Google previously clarified that Stadia will not give you access to a big library of titles like Netflix, as you’ll have to pay full price for games released on their streaming platform.
Stadia is launching sometime in November of this year. In case you missed it, you can find our rundown on pricing, games, and more here.
