Square Enix has announced Valkyrie Anatomia: The Origin.

The game is a new RPG “planned for distribution” in Japan sometime this spring. Featured above, the game’s logo and teaser website were revealed – however it’s all very curious, and doesn’t sound like a “proper” follow-up in the RPG series.

With the game launching so soon and the fact that it will be “distributed” (a common term for Japanese smartphone games), we’re thinking this is probably a smartphone game that simply uses the beloved Valkyrie Profile IP.

For what it’s worth, Star Ocean 5’s producer has a Valkyrie Profile 3 proposal sitting on his personal computer, so a proper sequel isn’t completely off the table.
