Square Enix re-released Chocobo GP without microtransactions

Square Enix has re-released their 2022 title Chocobo GP as a paid title with all content included instead of a free to play title with microtransactions.

Chocobo GP is a kart racer based on the Final Fantasy franchise and released early last year. For most of the game’s life, it’s been free to play with in-game microtransactions gating most of the content.

Players who have already invested time in the game can purchase an upgrade to keep all of their progress. The upgrade costs the same as the full game so it’s unclear if there will be any sort of compensation for previous microtransactions.

As the chequered flag waves, start an unpredictable and crazy fun race, where something unpredictable happens at every turn!

Join Chocobo and friends as they hit the track in a variety of wacky vehicles!

Learn the basics in story mode, then take on all-comers in the game mode of your choice! Use classic magic spells like fire and aero to blast the competition, or even turn the tables in a miracle comeback with each character’s unique abilities!

Numerous ways to play, including time attack challenges and tournament-style survival races.
Enjoy intense racing action with players from all around the world.

*This product is a set containing Chocobo GP Lite and the upgrade to the full version of the game. Purchasing it will allow you to play the full Chocobo GP experience. Customers who have already downloaded Chocobo GP Lite should purchase the “upgrade to the full game” DLC instead.
*For local multiplayer games, only owners of the full game are able to create lobbies and players using the Lite version can only play by joining an existing lobby.

You can even see the new “release” date on the game’s e-shop page.
