As we enter 2023, many companies are teasing numerous new projects that will be expected to see the light of day later this year.
Square Enix president Yosuke Matsuda wrote the company’s yearly letter to start off the year, summarizing what happened and what they hope will come to the future.
Matsuda revealed Square Enix wants to continue pushing their plans towards blockchain technology, despite massive losses in the crypto market and high levels of volatility due to market conditions.
In fact, the Japanese company believes said volatility to be a benefit for them instead.
“Following the excitement and exhilaration that surrounded NFTs and the metaverse in 2021, 2022 was a year of great volatility in the blockchain-related space,” Matsuda said.
He added, “However, if this proves to have been a step in a process that leads to the creation of rules and a more transparent business environment, it will definitely have been for the good of the growth of blockchain entertainment.”
He also said that Square Enix has multiple blockchain projects based on original IPs in the works right now. One of these blockchain projects has already been announced: Symbiogenesis.
They hope to announce more of these projects throughout this year. Perhaps one of those could be the hinted “big announcement” relating to Final Fantasy that was teased earlier?
