Square Enix is working on an entirely new Dragon Quest game.

The news of the game’s development comes via a job posting from the publisher, where they’re looking for a few planners for the new project. The game is described as a consumer game, meaning it’s coming to either home consoles or handhelds.

The scope of these new positions are reserved to designing maps and data management. The job listings also mention that development on the game is challenging, because the project is an “entirely new genre” for the series.

Finally, the planner’s responsibilities also include an online component of some sort. Although details are seemingly nonexistent, this portion does mention that online functionality will consist of players and play data being exchanged.

It’s worth mentioning there are currently four Dragon Quest games in development, Theatrhythm Dragon Quest, Dragon Quest HeroesDragon Quest XI, and lastly Dragon Quest Monsters. While the first two games are coming out on March 26 and February 26 respectively, it doesn’t make sense to hire planners for these games this close to release. The latter two are expectedly more of the same from both respective series.

What could the new game be? A MOBA? A first person dungeon RPG?
