During Nintendo’s financial results for the fiscal year ending in 2023, we’ve learned the massively popular Splatoon 3 managed to break sales records for the franchise.

The numbers have come in the Splatoon 3 has managed to reach 7.9 million units sold as of September 30, 2022. This is excellent considering the game itself had launched on September 9th, so the game managed these sales figures in under a month after release.

This makes it one of the fastest selling Switch games to date, with the number one title being Animal Crossing: New Horizons. These figures also make it the fastest selling title among the franchise as well, though that was previously known as it broke Switch sales records 3 days after launch.

Considering the fact that these numbers are only accounting up through September 30, it’s very likely the game has sold much more after the fact. Splatoon 2 is currently the best selling game in the series at 13.30 million. So it seems only a matter of time before it gets dethroned by its successor.
