Sony’s Game Pass competitor focuses on classic games, says new rumor

Sony's Game Pass competitor focuses on classic games

A new rumor is claiming Sony’s Game Pass competitor focuses on classic games, while the service has yet to be announced.

The new rumor comes from VentureBeat (via Giantbomb and VGC) writer Jeff Grubb, who claims to have received new info on Sony’s purported new subscription platform.

“It’s probably getting pretty close to this actually launching, something’s probably going to happen by the end of this month and I don’t think that necessarily means publicly, I think in terms of the internal milestone of where the service needs to be,” Grubb said.

The writer then suggest the previously rumored offerings, which are reportedly three different tiers, will range from $10 a month to start, $13 a month, and the highest comes in at $16 a month.

The rumor claims the basic “essential” tier will only get you monthly games that can be added to your library like PlayStation Plus already does – while its “extra” tier gets you access to a “downloadable game catalogue” that includes hundreds of games. Lastly, the “premium” tier comes with the above but also classic games and game sreaming.

GamesBeat further corroborated this rumor by confirming the same pricing structure on all three subscription tiers, as well as the features included in each tier. It’s worth noting the rumors claim the naming will retain the PlayStation Plus brand, but will add the “essential,” “extra,” and “premium” tiers.

As with any rumors  – take this with a grain of salt. We’ll keep you guys posted.
