Sony Interactive Entertainment has confirmed they’re not shipping the next PlayStation console before the next fiscal year.
The company said they will not launch their next console, which presumably will be the PlayStation 5, within the current fiscal year, which ends on March 31st of 2020 – news confirmed in their latest financial results meeting (via Mochi_WSJ).
This means the console will ship, at the earliest, in April of 2020 – but most likely not until fall 2020 at the earliest. Sony also confirmed they’re planning to invest most of their 31.1 billion yen (roughly $278m USD), which is their current fiscal year operations outlook over the previous fiscal year operations.
Lastly, Sony confirmed the PlayStation Now has seen an average of 40 percent annual growth since its launch, and now includes over 700,000 subscribers.
