We’ve learned (thanks, Variety) that Sony Pictures has obtained the rights to the Robotech franchise, and they’re making a live action movie.

The movie is being headed by Gianni Nunnari and Mike Canton as the producers, with Michael Gordon penning the script. Sony Pictures themselves are reportedly very involved, and will be overseeing the project.

The actual contents of the adaptation are currently unknown, so we might see any one of the three individual series be adapted, namely: Macross, Southern Cross and Mospeada. Macross is definitely the most popular of them all, so we’ll be placing our bets on that series.
