Sony has confirmed (via Wired) that emulated PS2 games are indeed coming to PlayStation 4.

“We are working on utilizing PS2 emulation technology to bring PS2 games forward to the current generation,” a Sony representative told Wired through e-mail. “We have nothing further to comment at this point in time.”

It’s worth mentioning that Wire asked specifically if this means disc-based emulation, but Sony would unfortunately not comment on this.

Yesterday, we reported on the PlayStation 4 versions of Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter, Star Wars: Racer Revenge, and Star Wars: Bounty Hunter all running on PS4 via a PS2 emulator, which provides improved visuals, performance, and trophy support.

This year’s PlayStation Experience runs from December 5th to the 6th, so maybe we’ll hear more about PS2 emulation at that time?
