Sony Interactive Entertainment lays off roughly 900 staff, London Studio closed entirely

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced they’ve laid off rougly 900 staff, or roughly 8% of their global workforce.

The latest rounds of layoffs in the industry affected several of Sony’s key internal development studios, including:

  • London Studio — has been closed entirely, all staff laid off
  • Insomniac Games
  • Naughty Dog
  • Guerrilla Games
  • Firesprite

As mentioned the layoffs affect their employees across the global, including their other smaller internal studios.

“These are incredibly talented people who have been part of our success, and we are very grateful for their contributions,” Sony Interactive Entertainment president Jim Ryan said in a statement. “However, the industry has changed immensely, and we need to future ready ourselves to set the business up for what lies ahead. We need to deliver on expectations from developers and gamers and continue to propel future technology in gaming, so we took a step back to ensure we are set up to continue bringing the best gaming experiences to the community.”
