Sony Ends PlayStation 3 Production in Japan

We previously reported on Sony reportedly looking to end the production of PlayStation 3 consoles in Japan. Now, we’ve learned the company has finally put the cell-processor driven console to rest.

The news comes via the official Japanese PlayStation website, which now lists the only remaining PlayStation 3 model (the standard 500GB SKU) as having its shipments as “ended.”

Sony originally launched the PlayStation 3 back in November of 2006. Since then, the console went on to sell over 86 million units worldwide.
