Sony Boss: An “Unprecedented Number” of Big Games Coming to PS4 in 2016

horizon zero dawn 12-30-15-1

One of the ongoing complaints of Sony’s PlayStation 4 is that it doesn’t seem to be getting that many “big” games since its launch.

Now, we’ve learned that Sony is looking towards the new year with optimism and boldness, according to an interview between 4Gamer and Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios boss, Shuhei Yoshida.

From the interview:

“Next year brings an unprecedented number of big games to PS4,” said Yoshida. “It’s also when we’re finally launching PlayStation VR. Overall it’s the year for PS4 owners, and even for those contemplating on buying it.”

What else that isn’t available elsewhere? I haven’t turned my PS4 on since a month after I bought it.

I feel like Shuhei is kinda to Sony what Reggie is to Nintendo; just a somewhat likeable enough face that oversells they current year’s lineup – and then goes on to agree that it could’ve been better at the very end of it, because obviously things will be better next year.

Personality-wise they’re somewhat apart, of course; people have finally started to see Reggie for the detached arrogant prick he really, but they have both still gotten away with way too much just because they’re presented/perceived as likable company mascots.

Let’s see now Uncharted 4, Horizon Zero Dawn, Gran Turismo Sport, Wild (though this looks like a 2017 release including RIME), The Last Guardian, Alienation and some other Sony owned 1st Party IP’s are coming PS4 next year
And 3rd party IP’s shouldn’t be excluded really

Also Uncharted especially The last of us sold much more than Jak and Daxter and considering they haven’t made those kinda games since PS2 they probably lost their edge on that. Maybe Sony can give the Jak and Daxter IP to someone else

  26. Para-Medic

Unless you’re REALLY into 1st party, he’s not really wrong. 99% of the 3rd/2nd party stuff will come to PC and there’s no reason to not play it there. Unless your PC is shit.

Now I know for a fact, Sony’s 1st party developers are not releasing 20+ games next year. PS4 gamers tend to think stuff like WoFF or NeiR Automata will be exclusive because they seem to have forgotten the “PS4 first” marketing or have chosen to ignore the interviews where exclusivity was denied.

Then you have stuff like SFV and Hellblade. Firewatch in that picture below (lol.) How about all those Tecmo games? At a time when Tecmo is porting their library almost as quickly as SE, do you honestly expect any of their games to remain exclusive for any period of time that matters?

I don’t. Until evidence of the contrary pops up, I don’t think you should either. The age of 2nd/3rd party exclusives is done. 2015 really should have hit that home for most console gamers I think.

  27. makubexnas

Sure. These days the ports are happening faster than ever. I’ll gladly wait for superior, customizable, moddable, versions of these games. PC also has a library of games that span 20,000 titles or more, not including emulators.

… Not exactly hurting for time wasters. That said, if you actually think more than 80% of the titles on that cute little chart you posted will remain exclusive, I’d say you’re delusional.

Well thanks for outing yourself as delusional as well as being one with shit taste in games. You’re absolutely a fucking idiot if you wanna sweep PC’s entire library under the rug like that. You’re a casual AAA chaser aren’t you? Always drooling for the next COD?

    – KOFXIV will be on PC, especially when SNKP says shit like this: http://shoryuken.com/2015/12/30/snk-playmore-executive-says-successful-steam-ports-helped-bring-them-back-to-game-development/

    – NMS, Hellblade, The Witness, SFV, DQH2 (the first one made it to PC, expect the 2nd), Firewatch, Shenmue 3, already confirmed PC.

    – All SE titles were marketed as “PS4 First” or “PS4 exclusive.” Combine that with SE’s recent trend of porting everything to PC and interviews like this: https://youtu.be/ssD3wf5Kp9M?t=12m Which basically confirms NieR Automata is not exclusive. And the blog post from their marketer on PSBlog.

    – Koei Tecmo titles, same deal. Aside from their gust properties, start naming TK titles that haven’t come to PC in the last two years? Can you?

    – Should I get into all those 2nd party games by independent studios? How many of those have we seen crop up on Steam lately? More than you’d like to admit I bet. Let’s not forget Sony themselves are not averse to publishing on PC, remember Helldivers?

I could go on, but it’s not worth it because you’ll do the usual bullshit and ignore everything that doesn’t fit your narrative. Fuck off you mewling fanboy hack. Sorry 2015 was the year PC stole all your exclusives. Sorry it appears that trend will continue in 2016 and beyond.

Guys, enough with the console war bullshit already. We are all gamers. It’s supposed to be about video games, not the devices they’re played on. I don’t care if you’re a Sony, a Microsoft, a Nintendo or a PC, and neither should you. Taking pride in your choice of device is silly. You bought a console. This is not an accomplishment. It does not make you part of a club. Wanting to deny other devices a game yours has is petty. You’re being played off against each other by corporations that prey on your tribalistic mentality. Ultimately they’re the only ones benefitting from your unearned loyalty and free marketing. Stop it.

Also about Nier again no real proof, its undecided but because your PC doesn’t have real games your hoping so hard

a small % of the Japanese games will come to the PC the rest will not. Some take years don’t really want to wait.

SquareEnix alone make 2016-17 worth it with FFXV, Star Ocean, WOFF and FFVII remake PT1, Nier.

As you mentioned TK I hear the Toukiden port was terrible on the PC. Think I’ll stick with the PS4 version of the sequel.

Where are the PC ports of Atelier? Onechanbara? Disgaea 5? Sword Art Online? Omega Quintet?

  57. Para-Medic
    December 31, 2015 at 4:27 am

Do you honestly believe FFXV will remain console exclusive for any period of worthy time? As articles on this website have already stated, all current builds are working on PC. 3, 4, 4 AY, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, 13, 13-2, 13-3 (LR), and FF14 can all be found on PC now, you’d need a lot of evidence to convince me that XV won’t come.

WoFF, NieR Automata, and FFVIIR have all been marketed as “PS4 first” and in separate interviews exclusivity was denied. I cannot in good faith, following recent PC port trends from SE, believe that any of their games in the future will remain exclusive for long periods. Recent SteamDB leaks indicated old titles like FFX and FFX-2 HD are on their way to PC as well.

Toukiden worked fine for many people on PC. Whether by brute force or luck, I cannot say, but it wasn’t a white wash. Not by a long shot. You’ll note that the Steam reviews are mixed, not majority negative. I can live with the 30FPS lock, because on PC I get to play with any controller I want and I can force all kinds of graphical improvements.

I’ll grant you this, Gust properties like Atelier have yet to make it to PC. I cannot say why, but I don’t expect this to remain the norm for much longer, especially once Gust starts dropping PS3 support. It seems logical to me that TK would seek extra revenue avenues at that point, and PC is already becoming a big one for them.

Future Disgaea PC ports likely ride on the success of: http://store.steampowered.com/app/405900/

SAO: Give it time, in a year or two we may still see this make it over. If not, I’ll grant you this one too. No hard feelings from me though, I only liked the GGO arc. XD

Omega Quintet is coming to PC: http://www.esrb.org/ratings/Synopsis.aspx?Certificate=33830&Title=Omega%20Quintet&searchkeyword=omega%20quintet Though it may be a bit since IFI seems to focusing on the Neptunia games and it’s spin-off’s first.

Ah yes the “PS4 has no games” meme.

Meanwhile every game that comes out has a PS4 port. (Newsflash: exclusives are dead because the industry has changed. With a budget of at least 50 million you have to release on as many platforms as possible).

I’m finding it extremely fringe, somewhat crazy, to believe that anyone could find negatives in these things. Freedom of choice is always a good thing. Supplemental mods, whether for Final Fantasy, Valkyria Chronicles(I was a big fan of the one that takes the HD cutscene models and replaces the in-game ones with them, very pretty), or DOA. Yakuza series will likely also start coming over going by Zero’s showing at PSX, shame Para missed that one.

And post-Helldivers it seems reasonable to assume most of the Sony funded “indies” will also come to PC.
