Sony Boss Admits No Man’s Sky Pre-Release Hype Failed Expectations

No Man’s Sky had a lot of hype surrounding its features and overall presentation during practically its entire development time, prior to its official release.

The game’s release came and went and most users are not happy with how the initial release stacks up to its promises. We even had trouble accurately reviewing it.

The studio behind the game, Hello Games, has essentially gone quiet post release and has focused on putting out various patches and updates.

While no interviews with the team have been conducted since release, Sony boss Shuhei Yoshida recently talked up the game’s hype compared to its final product.

“I understand some of the criticisms especially Sean Murray is getting, because he sounded like he was promising more features in the game from day one,” Yoshida said to Eurogamer.

“It wasn’t a great PR strategy, because he didn’t have a PR person helping him, and in the end he is an indie developer. But he says their plan is to continue to develop No Man’s Sky features and such, and I’m looking forward to continuing to play the game.”

When asked if the reception of No Man’s Sky has tainted the heavily-touted connection with the PlayStation brand, Yoshida wasn’t concerned – he’s also optimistic for the game’s future.

“I am super happy with the game actually, and I’m amazed with the sales the game has gotten, so I’m not the right person to judge if it has ‘harmed’ the PlayStation brand. I personally don’t think so. If anything, I am proud that people can play No Man’s Sky on PS4 as well as PC.”
