Sonic the Hedgehog Movie Sequel in Development

Sonic the Hedgehog

A sequel to Paramount Pictures’ Sonic the Hedgehog movie has been announced, and is in development.

Variety reports that Paramount Pictures and Sega Sammy confirmed on May 28th that development on the sequel had begun. Most of the original filmmakers will return, such as Jeff Fowler directing, and script writing by Pat Casey and Josh Miller.

Other confirmed staff include executive producers Hajime Satomi, Haruki Satomi, and Tim Miller; with producers Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, and Toru Nakahara

Casting has not been decided at this stage of development, though we would imagine Ben Schwartz will return as Sonic, while Jim Carrey will return in his outstanding performance as Dr. Robotnik.

The news is hardly surprising, considering the film achieved the highest opening for a video game based movie. This was with $111 million USD globally, and $68 million US in North America.

The film told an original story of a younger Sonic being hurled into the real world, trying to find his way back home alongside a human friend while Dr. Robotnik pursued him.

Will this next film take place in Sonic’s world? Will it try to adapt a story from one of the games? What do you think? Sound off in the comments below!
