Solo Japanese student unveils gorgeous underwater game “Whale Fall”

Whale Fall

Student turned game developer Fuma Yamane has unveiled his debut project – a picturesque underwater adventure game called Whale Fall.

The game is being developed solely by Yamane in Unreal Engine 5 while he pursues his masters degree at the Graduate School of Film and New Media at Tokyo University of the Arts.

Here’s the first full-length trailer for the game:

Whale Fall got a lot of attention on Twitter when Yamane shared the latest trailer as Takashi Tokita – a Square Enix dev – shared the game as well.

Yamane has been documenting his progress with development over on his YouTube channel, and the above trailer was produced with his work on all visuals with sound and music from his classmates at the Tokyo UArts Music department.

Whale Fall is set to be released sometime in summer 2023 for Windows PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store), but Yamane also wants to release the game for PlayStation consoles, too.
