Pale Blue is a very beautiful yet terrifying game that is in development by Tinker Games, a small indie studio that is based out of Bandung, Indonesia. The game seeks to tell the story of an innocent girl turned weaponized monstrosity, only she decides to fight for the bad guys.

The question that the guys at Tinker Games set out to answer was what could the motivation behind the evil characters within games could possibly be?

The protagonist within the game, Ellen, is incubated within the Cocoon Organization’s laboratory in an effort to create the means to their global utopia (or in this case a dystopia), via humanoid weapons.

The gameplay within Pale Blue is likened to a mix of various classic arcade games like Mega Man, Prince of Persia, the original Splinter Cell, and most notably – Rampage.

The latter of which is obviously the platform to which the core concepts of the game are built around, as you’ll essentially be roaming around large open areas while unleashing havoc and bloodshed.

Here are some of the Pale Blue’s core gameplay mechanics:

•  Linear Dungeon – hack-and-slash your enemies as you run through the mission and encounter various bosses and events.
• Semi-free Roaming – you are given the freedom to roam around the stages to complete various objectives or cause damage to the environment and create chaos.
• Stealth Stages – your mission is to clear objectives without sounding the alarm or being noticed by the nearby authorities to get the job done.
• Tower Defense – you are required to protect an asset from incoming enemies for however long it takes to complete the mission.

Despite the game being in an incubation stage (I’m sorry, I had to), it’s already oozing style and polish when it comes to how well the world and its characters are realized. Instead of chasing after yet another heroic archetype, they opted for a tragic, misunderstood female protagonist who unleashes hell.

The Kickstarter campaign for Pale Blue is asking for $48,000 dollars to make the game a reality, and if funded it will be coming to PC. Honestly, I want to see more of what the game’s story has to offer, so I sincerely hope that these guys get funded. If you want to back Pale Blue, head on over to their Kickstarter page.
