Skullgirls hides thousands of reviews after cutting content

Skullgirls

Skullgirls 2nd Encore is sitting at a “Very Positive” recent review score on Steam. This should be a surprise since just a few days ago the recent reviews were “Overwhelmingly Negative”.

What happened is that thousands (not an exaggeration, thousands) of reviews have been struck from the record as “off-topic”. These reviews are still accessible, but you have to jump through some small hoops on the store page to see them.

One screenshot from @FGC_Daily shows the Steam reviews as they were on July 3 with 3,584 Recent Reviews. At the time of writing we found that number has been reduced to a mere 50. That means over 98% of recent reviews were removed as off-topic.

While it’s true that Skullgirls 2nd Encore has been review-bombed, it’s different from some random site being flooded; all Steam reviews are from verified owners of the game.

The wave of negative reviews came from fans of the series upset by a series of changes to character art, story elements, and other cut content.

While it may be tempting to dismiss the cut content as just “panty shots”, actual content was removed from the game like an announcer pack which was a Kickstarter goal and actual gallery images from the optional $9.99 DLC. Actual content players paid for has been directly removed from the game.

Skullgirls 2nd Encore is currently available for Windows PC (via Steam), Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, mobile devices, and soon Xbox One
