Skul: The Hero Slayer Heads to PS4, Switch, and Xbox One in Summer 2021

Skul: The Hero Slayer

Developer SouthPAW Games have announced their plans for Skul: The Hero Slayer in 2021, along with the game’s console release date.

As previously reported, the is a 2D action-roguelite where you play as a small skeleton warrior tasked with reclaiming his kingdom from the evil “heroes” that have captured the Demon King. As a skeleton, you can take off your skull and replace it with the skulls of powerful warriors, gaining access to their weapons and abilities.

The new dev blog has detailed the game’s roadmap for 2021. Based on feedback, some from the Early Access period, the current proposals is to add an auto-save function in Q2, letting players save mid-run. In addition, new Skull and Quintessence will be coming to the game, along with others deemed less fun or harder to use being improved upon. A field NPC and special event maps will also boost replayability.

For Q3, a New Game+ mode will be added (which shall be as challenging as hard mode). Q4 will bring several quality of life improvements (stat interface, an index for skulls), improvements to food (making it more fun and dynamic), and new items and Quintessence. The developers are also considering more options for permanent player progression, and improvements to the Witch Trait system.

The developers also note that ” depending on the situation we may have other updates that aren’t currently listed. For example, we would love to do another character crossover!”

Finally, the console release date was confirmed. This also came with a new gameplay trailer during the Nintendo Indie World. You can find that at 16:15, and below

Skul: The Hero Slayer is available for Windows PC, Linux, Mac (all via Steam), and Summer 2021 on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. In case you missed it, you can find our review here (we recommend it).

You can find the full rundown (via Steam) below:

The Demon King’s Castle in Ruins
The human race attacking the Demon King’s castle is nothing new and has happened countless times before. What makes this time different though, is that the Adventurers decided to join forces with the Imperial Army and the ‘Hero of Caerleon’ to lead a full onslaught in hopes of wiping out the Demons once and for all. They attacked the Demon stronghold with overwhelming numbers and succeeded in its total destruction. All of the demons in the castle were taken prisoner except for one lone skeleton named ‘Skul’.

Side-Scrolling Platformer Action
‘Skul: The Hero Slayer’ is an action-platformer that boasts rogue-like features such as everchanging and challenging maps. It will keep you on your toes, as you will never know what to expect.

Tons of skulls, tons of playable characters
Skul is no ordinary skeleton. In addition to his formidable fighting skills, he can gain new and exciting abilities depending on which skull he’s wearing. Use up to 2 skulls at a time, each of which has its own unique attack range, speed and power. Choose combos that match your playing style and switch them in the heat of battle to bring your enemies to their knees. The power is in your hands!

The Adventurers
Skul has crossed paths with a party of Adventurers! They are powerful foes that hunt Demons for sport. While Skul may be small, he still packs quite a punch. So just wait and see who really is the hunter and who is the hunted….

Bosses Corrupted by Dark Quartz
At the end of every chapter, go head-to-head with massive bosses corrupted with Dark Quartz and powerful beyond belief. Derived from the pain and hate of life itself, Dark Quartz taints and takes control of everything it touches.
