Sigma Star Saga DX physical release for GBA launches preorders

Sigma Star Saga DX

WayForward has announced a physical release for Sigma Star Saga DX, their re-release of the 2000s-released shoot ’em up game for the Game Boy Advance.

Sigma Star Saga DX is getting a physical release for the Game Boy Advance in both standard and collector’s editions via Limited Run Games, and preorders are now available until April 6th.

Though today’s announcement is for a new physical release on actual Game Boy Advance cartridges, a full digital and physical release “for modern platforms, running on Limited Run Games’ Carbon Engine,” is planned in the future.

“Sigma Star Saga DX is a new and improved version of this classic sci-fi shooter/adventure, polished and refined by the original 2005 dev team,” says Sigma Star Saga creator Matt Bozon. “We collected 20 years of fan feedback, and made this beloved game even better! Now, players who missed out two decades ago can finally experience this truly inspired and experimental genre mashup, and players who enjoyed the game back in the day will want to add this new, faster-paced, harder-hitting version to their collections!”

Here’s a rundown on the new release for the classic game, plus a new trailer:

Sigma Star Saga DX is a refined version of the unique 2005 adventure/RPG/shoot-’em-up hybrid.

Originally published by Namco on GBA, Sigma Star Saga is a genre-shattering sci-fi adventure that transitions from character-driven top-down exploration to realtime side-scrolling space-shooter action when battle begins. As elite Earth pilot Ian Recker, players must infiltrate the invading Krill empire and defeat them from within by traversing numerous planets, interacting with memorable NPCs, and wielding dozens of types of weapon data that allow for thousands of powerful combinations for Recker’s ship. Newly updated for the game’s 20th anniversary, Sigma Star Saga DX retains all of the gameplay and content of the original release, but adds numerous refinements including an improved map, decreased random encounter rate, rebalanced EXP system, modified hit boxes, adjusted auto-fire, enhanced dialogue, additional save points, assorted bug fixes and quality-of-life updates, and more.
