2K Games have revealed Sid Meier’s Starships for PC, Mac, and iPad.
The game is confirmed for a “spring 2015” release window. Players must “build a planetary federation” to establish peace in the galaxy. Featured above, you can view the reveal trailer for the game.
Sid Meier’s Starships is set in the same universe as Civilization: Beyond Earth, and Firaxis is promising some kind of “cross-connectivity” for the fans who end up owning both titles.
Side Meier, Director of Creative Development at Firaxis, release a press statement about the game. “When designing Starships, I was intrigued by the idea of exploring the next chapter in the story of Civilization: Beyond Earth. What happens after we colonize our new home and eventually build starships to take to the stars? What has become of our long-lost brothers and sisters from the planet Earth?” He continued, “My goal was to create an experience that focuses on starship design and combat within a universe filled with interstellar adventure, diplomacy, and exploration.”
In Sid Meier’s Starships, the player will step into the boots of a starship commander, getting the ability to fully customize their own fleet of interstellar cruisers. You’ll naturally be able to research technology and spread your influence across the galaxy. The game unfolds via turn-based gameplay, much like the core Civilization series.
With every new campaign that players launch, a new map will be generated for them with dynamically generated combat missions. The provided screenshots depict both in-game mechanics, as well as some concept art.
[Editor’s Note: while Niche Gamer isn’t covering Civilization: Beyond Earth, we are covering Sid Meier’s Starships, as it is an entirely new IP connected to the core series.]
