The leak is apparently true – Nintendo has just confirmed Shulk for Super Smash Bros. on both 3DS and Wii U.

Shulk is a brand new character from Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii, and he wields the powerful Monado blade. Featured above, you can watch his reveal trailer, and you can also visit his official character page here.

Lastly, Nintendo confirmed that fans who register both the Wii U and 3DS versions of the game via Club Nintendo will obtain the official Super Smash Bros. soundtrack.
