Shovel Knight is “Essentially Complete,” Release is Near

Shovel Knight is a love letter to fans of old school side-scrolling shooting/action games, and it’s currently in development by Yacht Club Games. Despite the game having a pretty good development schedule, later last year it was delayed, and then earlier this year it was delayed yet again.

In a new update posted to the game’s Kickstarter blog, we’ve fortunately heard some good news as far as the game’s development and final release date is concerned – it’s not that much further off. Yacht Club Games revealed that the production of the game is winding down and that they’re in the final phases of development:

“We can see the light at the end of the tunnel! Shovel Knight is essentially complete, as we continue to polish and fix bugs that crop up. These little changes have made huge improvements in these final days. It’s so close! As production winds down, we’ll have a stable candidate for each version of the game for submission: and then we can announce a final release date!”

While many fans and backers may be grumbling that the game has been consistently delayed, you’ve got to hand it to Yacht Club Games to have a keen eye for ensuring the final product is everything they’ve been waiting for. In the words of a wise and venerated game designer: “A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad.”

Additionally, if you’re heading to PAX East next weekend, Yacht Club Games will have the game playable there both on 3DS handhelds and on TVs, although they didn’t specify if the Wii U or PC build would be playable on the big screens. They’ll be at booth 997, so definitely check that out if you have the time.
