Shovel Knight Heads to Nintendo Switch, Rebranded as Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove for All Platforms

Yacht Club Games have announced a Nintendo Switch version for Shovel Knight.

The new port will come alongside a rebranding of the game to Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove across all platforms. The game is also getting a price hike sometime this spring.

Yacht Club shared a lot of information, so we’ve compiled it all here:

The Body Swap Mode

Body Swap Mode is complete and will be included for Shovel Knight’s campaign! Get ready for sprites and illustrations of all-new designs for body-swapped versions of the main characters as the release draws closer. To get you primed, here’s your first look at body-swapped Shovel Knight and Shield Knight!

Two-Player Co-op in Shovel Knight

Finally!! After many requests! Grab a friend and rejoice! Local two player co-op in Shovel Knight’s campaign is coming as a free update to all console and PC platforms (3DS/Vita not included). Amiibo not required!

Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove

Soon, the game you now know as Shovel Knight will become Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove. When that happens, you’ll also have new options to purchase each campaign as separate, standalone games on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC/Mac/Linux, and Nintendo Switch:

  • Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope Shovel of Hope is our new name for the original Shovel Knight game, since it needed a title like the others. What do you think!? Rewatch the adventure here.
  • Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows – Plague Knight’s Campaign emerges from the Shadows to hopefully get some recognition this time! Watch it all here.
  • Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment – Specter of Torment is our most expansive campaign yet. We’re so excited for you to become the reaper! See Specter Knight in action here.

Later in 2017 the following will release (names TBD):

  • Shovel Knight: King Knight’s Campaign – A crazy campaign with the gilded goob himself!
  • Shovel Knight: Battle Mode – Duel with up to 4 players as your favorite heroic or villainous knight! (3DS/Vita not included.)

Why is this happening? Well, we hope providing less expensive standalone versions will provide better entry points for different types of players! Also, players can more easily grab an adventure (or Battle Mode) on another platform!

All owners of Shovel Knight on all platforms will automatically own Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove instead and will continue to get each of the planned free campaigns and features via updates. It will work exactly like how Shovel Knight was updated to include its first campaign addition, Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows. Don’t worry!

Price Hike

In the spring, we will be raising the price of Shovel Knight. If you haven’t picked up Shovel Knight yet and want all the content included within Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, buy it now before the price increases this spring! Or pick a selection of the standalone versions for a cheaper price!

That’s an interesting business model. Yacht Club have been doing a great job supporting this game with all the free updates.

these have been free updates throughout this entire campaign.
it’s honestly refreshing to see a game getting support like this.

So tempting to re-buy, but I’ll just stick with the 3DS physical.

Shovel Knight is so good that I don’t mind buying it multiple times. Bought it for my PS4 and will buy a 3DS copy just to have it and will be buying this for my PS4.

Shovel Knight is so timeless like Resident Evil 4 to me. I RARELY buy a game multiple times.

YES. I really wanted to play this game cooperatively on the Wii U with my girlfriend, but did not want to have to fork over so many euros just to get the mode that is essentially locked away inside a figure.
Although now this makes the Wii U version less alluring, since that was the main reason I chose that version in the first place; the co-op experience.
Oh well, more for everyone is always welcome.

I don’t see how the platform getting Shovel Knight equals it being dead on arrival.

Call me when it’s a game that’s not a 2D side scrolling game getting free patches and updates like Shovel knight.

Because let’s face it, making what would be paid DLC for a triple a or Neptunia like game free for a side scrolling 2D game isn’t that surprising. Considering they’ve also already made bank on Shovel Knight.

A great game, but I’ve had my fill of it for one lifetime.

Great game that ever came out of Kickstarter. Hopefully Yooka Laylee, Indivisible, despite the developers SJW agenda and Bloodstained succeed. Yacht Club are doing a great job supporting this game w/ all the free updates.

The continued support Shovel Knight has been getting isn’t at all comparable to the kinds of meaningless – but still paid – DLC those other companies love to nickle and dime you with.

    no. you entitled child.

plenty of other games have “made bank” and still will leech your wallet for the last couple of pennies in there, so i don’t even get your point?

what genre the game is has nothing to do with it.
this is a decent thing they’re doing and a very uncommon bussiness practice.

if anything, it’s the absolute opposite of what you’re implying.

shovel knight isn’t that big of a game, they technically could get away with charging for DLC.
triple A games often generate a lot more profit and will still have loads of fluff micro transactions, the recent FFXV is a good example.

I don’t see how new AAA games are going to run on a “gaming tablet”,(bf1, CoD that takes 130Gb of space, and whatever the casuals play nowadays) so it’s probably gonna be stock full of indies instead….and 3 nintendo games a year…sounds a bit familiar, don’t you think?

My thought while reading this “the fuck is body swap mode” and then finding out what it actually is I’m not surprised they give that confusing name because it’s some obvious Tumblr bullshit that would have been apparent if they called it “gender swap mode”.

It could fit in those tiny cartridges, after all, they’re still 15gb of game data and 115GB of uncompressed audio.

You really should. Honestly, I find Plague Knight more fun to play as than Shovel Knight with all the burst jumping and bomb throwing, and the story’s ridiculously adorable to boot.

Well, my expectation wasn’t that it was gonna get all the Western games; just pretty much everything from Japan.

The just revealed price however, I honestly do hope that means it’s dead on arrival now.
