Atlus have revealed more about upcoming JRPG Shin Megami Tensei V, including launch DLC featuring new demon bosses to beat and unlock.
As previously reported, the plot centers around a Japanese teenager entering another world where God is dead; and a new being promises the world can be reborn from the old. The main character fuses with a mysterious man to become Nahobino, something that is considered forbidden, and begins their rampage across this new world.
The prior “SMT5 News Reports” [1, 2, 3] discussed the game’s characters, new battle mechanics and characters, new ways to build your party’s stats and skills, and moving around the world of Da’at. Volume 4, the final volume, focuses on the game’s DLC.
On launch Return of the True Demon will be available. It will pit players against the Demi-Fiend; the main character from Shin Megami Tensei III. After being given a menorah in the World of Shadows (promising it will bring great power or swift death), players will fight the various bosses from Shin Megami Tensei III (such as Matador, Hell Biker, and Mother Harlot).
Beating these bosses will allow players to obtain them via fusion. Defeating the Demi-fiend will only grant his Essence however (likely granting new skills to whoever it is used on).
Other DLC on launch includes A Goddess in Training. Players will be able to help the goddess Artemis train. Beating her will let players obtain her via fusion. The Rage of a Queen will also let players unlock Cleopatra, after she has been banished from Bethel’s Egypt branch. The Doctor’s Last Wish will unlock Mephisto by helping find a missing Bethel researcher.
Aside from DLC with new demons, there will also be DLC to help players progress. Mitama Dance of Wealth will cause Saki Mitama to appear more (who in turn drop expensive items). Mitama Dance of EXP will likewise cause Ara and Kushi Mitama to appear more; giving items and EXP respectively.
While Mitama Dance of Miracles nets you more Nigi Mitama for Glory. As previously reported, Glory is used to buy Miracles, which grant special passive skills. There will also be free DLC on launch; the Safety difficulty.
All of the above DLC will be available at launch, and there will be a DLC bundle at a discounted price for all of the above (and a digital version of the game with all DLC).
During the Q&A segment, it was revealed the base game has a new game+ mode. Players can carry over certain attributes into new game. “Newborn” transfers your Demon Compendium and enemy data, but difficulty is not drastically affected. “Reborn” will keep the main charter’s level, skills, all demons, Macca, items, and more to have an easier second playthrough.
It was also noted that some demons and Miracles can only be obtained via multiple playthroughs. Finally, a new trailer was announced to be released next week, and an article on the game will appear in Weekly Famitsu’s October 28th edition.
