Jump SQ’s April issue (via Anime News Network), has revealed that the Sherlock Holmes-inspired manga Moriarty the Patriot will be getting an anime adaption.
Based on the Sherlock Holmes stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the original manga sees Professor Moriarty as (in the words of Anime News Network) “an orphan who assumes the name William James Moriarty when he and his younger brother are adopted into the Moriarty family. As a young man, he seeks to remove the ills caused by England’s strict class system.”
Staff confirmed so far include Animation Production by Production I.G, and Director Kazuya Nomura (Black Fox, Robotics;Notes, Run with the Wind, the second season of Sengoku Basara – Samurai Kings, the movie Sengoku Basara – Samurai Kings: The Last Party, and Joker Game).
Character Design will be handled by Tooru Ookubo, who also did character designs for the Sengoku Basara – Samurai Kings series and OVAs, and Tokimeki Restaurant: Miracle6.

The 2016 manga was published by Shueisha, written by Ryosuke Takeuchi, and illustrated by Hikaru Miyoshi. The series even inspired two stage musicals in 2019, and 2020. The announcement co-insides with the manga’s 11th shipped volume.
