Shenmue III Ending Leaves Story Open to Another Sequel

Despite being in development for several years and not coming to fans nearly 20 years after the previous game’s cliffhanger, we’ve learned Shenmue III will have somewhat of an open ending, leaving the story open for another sequel.

The news comes via an interview with series creator Yu Suzuki and French website Gamers Flag, where the game’s director confirmed the game’s story can’t be finished with a third game. Coming from this, Suzuki noted the ending in Shenmue III will be left open to a fourth game.

The interviewer followed up by reiterating the story was always envisioned as having more than three entries, to which Suzuki noted it’s not possible to finish the story with the current game.

Shenmue III is launching for PC and PlayStation 4 sometime in the second half of this year. In related news, Deep Silver picked up the game’s publishing duties.
