Shantae and the Seven Sirens Spectacular Superstar Update

WayForward have released the Spectacular Superstar free update for platformer Metroidvania Shantae and the Seven Sirens.

As previously reported, Shatae’s latest adventure takes her to a tropical island, meeting up with other half-genies and new friends. The other half-genies are soon kidnapped, and Shantae begins to investigate the island’s mysteries. Use new dancing and Fusion Magic abilities alongside Shantae’s shape-shifting magic.

The Spectacular Superstar update adds four new modes, extra story content, and optional convenience features. The new modes include new ways to use Monster Cards, a beginner mode, and the “director’s cut” Definitive Mode. The latter aims to be as challenging as classic Shantae games. You can find the details on the new modes below.

  • Definitive Mode: A more challenging “director’s cut” that features classic Shantae difficulty, with rebalanced item drops and magic consumption, as well as more-intense boss fights and new dialog with the Sirens before each battle.
  • Full Deck Mode: Definitive Mode with a twist. Start with all 50 Monster Cards to customize Shantae’s abilities to your liking.
  • Rule Breaker Mode: Definitive Mode without limits. You can equip up to 50 Monster Cards at once to gain ultimate power.
  • Beginner Mode: Definitive Mode made simple. This easy mode makes it impossible to lose! Perfect for newcomers or those who just want to explore the world and enjoy the story.
  • Legacy Mode: Experience the game in its original, unaltered form.

Other improvements the Spectacular Superstar update adds includes improved dialog, map objectives, game hints (which can be toggled), and the unlockable Hula Costume. This costume is unlocked after beating the game once, and grants more powerful magic in exchange for lower defense.
