Some may remember the recently released Kult: Heretic Kingdoms that squeaked its way onto GOG after having been lost in release limbo for almost a decade. Having never received this obscure European ARPG and assuming we’d never get it, many PC RPG fans were wondering “why now”? Well, the timing of Kult’s delayed release makes sense now, considering that the sequel has just been announced.
Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms is a direct sequel to the previous game and is being released by controversial publisher bitcomposer (Whom you may remember from this debacle). While not much is known other than what you’ll find on the aforementioned main site, it seems like the game’s twist comes in the form of you playing as a demon.
Players assume the role of the “Devourer”, a demon who absorbs his foe’s souls while traveling in between the realm of light and shadow…hence the name of the game, I imagine. Apparently you control a party of adventurers and can seamlessly and at will transform into this demon, though how that is explained or if it plays into the party dynamic the press release doesn’t quite say.
Regardless, European CRPG fans or those who enjoyed the original Kult should be excited at the prospect of this unexpected but appreciated sequel.
