Harebrained Schemes, the team behind Shadowrun Returns and the upcoming Shadowrun: Hong Kong, are working on yet another reboot of sorts.
The game is a reboot of BattleTech, the iconic mecha series that Harebrained Schemes boss Jordan Weisman also created alongside the MechWarrior series, over two decades ago.
While details are scant, the game’s official website confirms BattleTech will be a turn-based game made for PC, the first in the series in over two decades.
The story will be set in the “feudal political intrigue” of the BattleTech universe, and will include an open-ended “Mercenaries-style” campaign that blends RPG ‘Mech and MechWarrior management, with modern turn-based tactics.
We have gotten some more tidbits for the game, via an interview between Alistdaily and Weisman. The game will be set in the year 3025, and will feature lots of RPG elements, mostly considering the fact that you’ll be managing a company of ‘Mechs, but also Mechwarriors. There will be skill trees and career path, and you’ll be able to build your own mercenary unit.
Finally, while the game is hitting Kickstarter some time this fall, visitors to this year’s GenCon (which has already concluded) had the chance to be early bird supporters, via the game’s Vanguard (founders) pack.
We’ll keep you guys posted.
