The developers of Shadowrun Returns, Harebrained Schemes, have revealed a completely new game today in the form of Necropolis.
The game is touted as a dark, roguelike dungeon RPG that gives players the chance to adventure into the Necropolis itself.
Details are scant for now, but we know that ultimately the goal will be to seek out the lost treasures and magical trinkets of the archmage Abraxis.
To secure these lost valuables, you have to explore the ruins of the dangerous magical complex, which is sure to be rife with various methods of completely screwing over the player.
The overseer, Brazen Head, seeks to continually fuel the Necropolis with the souls of the damned who fall prey to its dastardly mechanisms. The Necropolis continues to exist as a result of the very lives it takes.
While gameplay or in-game screenshots haven’t been revealed yet, we’re told players can expect a third-person, combat-oriented experience focused on timing and character/enemy animations.
The game is definitely giving me Rogue Legacy meets Dark Souls vibes, which I’m sure will make all the masochistic fans of ours out there happy. You can probably expect a challenging focus on enemy combat, mixed with the unforgiving roguelike nature of the levels themselves.
For now, you can peruse the game’s official site and its devlog.
We’ll keep you guys posted.
