Seven Seas is reportedly undoing revisions made to the series I’m in Love with the Villainess after readers observed that content that provided context was cut from the official English release.
According to the news blog YuriMother, changes were observed in the light novel of I’m in Love with the Villainess which removed context and cultural references from the series. These changes include removing the protagonist’s introspection about their own behavior as they try and seduce their love interest.
In the series, the protagonist Rae Taylor considers her own behavior and how it might be similar to LGBT+ entertainers in Japan who act in a way that turns their own sexuality into a joke. Rae reflects that this is how she behaved in her past life and she does it out of fear of rejection.
The removed scene provides context and insight into Rae’s character, the change was noted on Twitter and I’m in Love with the Villainess author Inori chimed in that the change may have been “unavoidable”. However Seven seas responded, saying that they have since changed their editing process and the content will be restored in future printings and the ebook.

Seven Seas admittance to the mistake is a positive step in the right direction and reaffirms their commitment to changing their practices after they admitted to “heavy handed” changes to titles like Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation back in February. It’s worth noting that Seven Seas claims these changes were made before they began to reconsider their current editing practices.
