Kadokawa, Crunchyroll, Qzil.la, and ARCH have announced their Sekiro: No Defeat anime adaptation has a premiere date in Japan.
The new Sekiro: No Defeat anime is premiering in Japan on September 4th and will have a three week theatrical run nationwide.
Alongside news of the Japanese premiere date is a reveal of the anime’s main visual and tagline “Together. To live, to die.”, which depicts the film’s retelling of the 2019 game:
As we previously reported the new anime is based on the FromSoftware game Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and will stream exclusively on Crunchyroll worldwide sometime later in 2026, though Crunchyroll hasn’t announced a western date yet.
The original game Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has been available for Windows PC (via Steam), PlayStation 4, Xbox One. Check out our review here!
Here’s a brief blurb on the anime film:
The time is Sengoku. Japan is fractured into many independent nations entangled in ceaseless war. At the center lies Ashina, a land of sacred earth and ancient mystery. Two decades after Sword Saint Isshin Ashina reclaimed the region in a brutal coup, a new threat emerges from within: The Interior Ministry. Desperate to protect his homeland, Isshin’s grandson Genichiro turns to forbidden powers. The only hope lies in a kidnapped boy — the Divine Heir — and his silent protector: a loyal shinobi known only as Sekiro.
This is the story of a lord and his retainer — and their quest to restore balance to a nation on the edge.
