Sekai Project are Kickstarting the Localization for the Full Voice Edition of Clannad

Sekai Project caused much rejoicing in the visual novel community when they announced the official translation they were planning for Clannad.

The full voice edition of the game has been put up on Kickstarter, like their previous outings with localizing visual novels. The studio is looking for $140,000 in funding, and they’ve already received $65,000 dollars – that’s a lot of money!

The reasoning behind the somewhat steep funding goal is thus – Sekai Project are looking to localize a 50+ hour visual novel, with all of the original Japanese voices – there’s also the large cost of the associated royalties.

Here’s a breakdown, provided by Sekai Project, of where all the money will go:

  • 10% goes to Kickstarter fees and credit card fees
  • 40% goes to translation and editing costs
  • 50% goes to voice costs as well as physical goods production and shipping.

Sekai is going to release Clannad digitally, but if you’re looking rather generous, you can contribute $50 dollars for a physical copy of the game.

If you want to back Clannad on Kickstarter, you can do so here.
